Your yard is your gym

Big Frank has been wondering lately about all the wasted effort that goes on when people exercise. OK, maybe not wasted in the sense that no good came of it, but wasted in the sense that the effort's only result was in the physical benefit to the exerciser and the energy expended pretty much just goes up in smoke, as it were. So what if that energy could be captured and put to use? For example, there are some gyms at universities that are hooking up their exercise machines (treadmills and staionary bikes) to generators and capturing the electricity to power their energy needs at the university! Grand Valley State University and Oregon State University are doing just that.

So what about me? I'm sure you are asking that along with Big Frank. Well, actually there is something that you can do. Many common exercises - and a few not so common ones too - can be harnassed, as it were, to actually pay direct measurable dividends to you beyond your physical fitness or mood lift. You can get fit through GARDENING - which means you can get your yard all spiffed up while you get your exercise at the same time! There are books on this, and websites, and even videos . So grab that rake -bend that thigh, position the shovel - lean into it, lunge forward - pull a weed: it's all that simple. This could be a revolution!
